They sense the gravity of the situation — that this is not a “normal” election. American democracy is facing an existential crisis. Intractable conflicts are raging across Europe and the Middle East. The China/USA “great power competition” looms large. Global trade, a damper to hostility, is at risk. It’s becoming increasingly likely that climate change is causing more severe catastrophic weather events, threatening swaths of the world’s population. America’s fate affects us all.
